This is called A History of Violence, and there is plenty of that, but the film could also be called the mystery of sex, for the two scenes shared by Maria Bello and Viggo Mortensen. In the first spouse, Bello, lover and mother in the Midwest, puts on his old clothes for some Whoopee playful entertainer with Mortensen, his calm, faithful husband. In the second, all hell breaks loose in the stairwell of his home. Sex is angry, savage, more an act of rage that love, and could become more dangerous with another man.
